Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The Chloe has 14 rooms and a saltwater pool that anyone 21 or older can buy into, at $45 a person Monday to Thursday and $55 Friday to Sunday. That shapes a stay here more than anything upstairs does. The bar pulls in the neighborhood as well, and private events use the front patio and the pool deck. Guests who chose a 14-room house for quiet describe the chairs filling early and loud music at the pool. Some parties run into the evening. The pool is also smaller and narrower than most people expect. Overnight guests can reserve a lounger or table through the front desk, so do that before a weekend. The rooms get steadier praise. Each has a record player and a shelf of albums from Peaches Records, and that's what guests bring up first. Breakfast is included and comes to you: you fill out a card the night before with a time and a place, your room or anywhere on the grounds. Front-desk staff get credit for spotting what people need, while bar service draws complaints of slow, offhand treatment even on quiet nights. Couples who want a small house on the streetcar line with dinner downstairs do best here. Plenty of guests call it expensive for rooms that start at 266 square feet. The hotel's site lists no resort fee. Parking is free on the street, and a dog costs $50 a night, one per room.

The Chloe FAQ

Does The Chloe charge a resort fee?

None is listed. The hotel's FAQ mentions extra charges only for early check-in and late check-out, and says nothing about a resort or amenity fee either way, so ask for the all-in total when you book.

Is there parking at The Chloe?

Yes, on the street, and it's free. The hotel says free on-street parking is available for all guests and lists no valet or garage, so plan on finding a curb space nearby.

Can people who aren't staying at The Chloe use the pool?

Yes. Day passes cost $45 a person Monday to Thursday and $55 Friday to Sunday and holidays, sold at the pool entrance for 11 am to 8 pm, and day guests must be 21 or older. Hotel guests get the pool around the clock and can reserve a lounger or table through the front desk, which is worth doing before a weekend.

Is breakfast included at The Chloe?

Yes, and it's for hotel guests only. Guests say you fill out a card the night before with a time and a place, and breakfast is brought to your room or wherever on the property you asked for it.

How do I get to the French Quarter from The Chloe?

Take the St. Charles streetcar. The Milan stop is across the street from the front entrance, and the Quarter is a little over three miles away. The hotel puts the drive at just over 10 minutes.

Is The Chloe a good last-minute pick?

For a couple who wants a small, personal hotel on the streetcar line, yes. Skip it if a quiet pool is the point of the trip: day-pass swimmers, bar regulars and private events all share the grounds, and guests often say the rooms are small for what they paid.
