Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
The St. Charles streetcar stops right across the avenue from this Hampton, which is most of this hotel's appeal. You ride downtown or to the French Quarter without moving the car, then come back to a far quieter block than anything near Bourbon Street, which is why Tulane and Loyola visitors land here too. The building is older. Guests in 2026 describe a split, with some rooms updated and others worn, and you don't get to pick. Maintenance is the recurring complaint: wet carpet and a shower that stayed clogged for an entire stay both came up this year, and several guests say reports to the desk went nowhere until they chased maintenance themselves. Desk service runs hot and cold, so don't count on a late checkout or a room change on a busy night. Breakfast is free and hot, and guests call it ordinary Hampton food. Self-parking is $20 a day in the lot behind the hotel, which guests describe as locked or guarded at night, and there is no valet. Four nights comes to $80, where valet at The Roosevelt downtown would run $228. Book over Mardi Gras and the same space costs $50 a night.

Does the Hampton Inn St. Charles charge a resort fee?
Not one the hotel publishes. Hilton's page for this Hampton lists no resort or destination fee, so ask when you book if you want it confirmed.
How much is parking at the Hampton Inn St. Charles?
$20 a day for self-parking, and there's no valet. During Mardi Gras the rate goes to $50 a night.
Can I get to the French Quarter without driving?
Yes. The St. Charles streetcar stops across the avenue and runs to Canal Street at the edge of the Quarter. Guests park once and use the streetcar for the rest of the trip.
Is breakfast included?
Yes, a free hot buffet breakfast. Guests describe it as standard Hampton fare, fine but nothing special.
Is it worth booking last minute?
For a driver headed Uptown, yes: $20 parking and a streetcar at the door are hard to match downtown. If you need a room in good repair every time, look elsewhere, since 2026 guests report maintenance problems that sat unfixed for days.
