Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The last renovation that turns up at the Sheraton dates to around 2015, and guests keep describing dated decor and a tired feel that nothing since has fixed. What still sells this 1,110-room tower is the address: 500 Canal Street, on the streetcar line, with the French Quarter across the street. Guests come back to the friendly staff and the clean rooms, and higher floors get city and river views. Service gets called inconsistent, with some guests reporting delays. The location that makes sightseeing easy also pulls in Saints crowds and convention traffic, and on those weekends guests say parking gets crowded and slow. On a game day or a big convention, the car is better left at home. Parking is valet only; the hotel's page lists no self-park option. Valet is $55 plus tax, which the page also gives as $62.15 a day once the 13% parking tax is added. Oversized vehicles pay $62 plus tax, and the garage ceiling is 6 feet 5 inches. Marriott's booking screen shows a $30 destination fee included in the nightly rate. Guests do flag wifi charges as pricey, so confirm what your rate includes before you book. Dogs up to 40 pounds can come for $75 per stay, one per room, and the hotel says a dog cannot be left alone in the room.
