Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Le Pavillon no longer has a pool, whatever older listings say. The hotel's own FAQ states it plainly, and guests who booked expecting the rooftop pool keep bringing it up. The praise lands downstairs instead. Guests describe the chandeliers and antiques in the 1907 lobby, and the front desk and bell staff draw warm mentions. The free late-night PB&J comes up often enough to count as the hotel's signature. Entry-level rooms are small, with a tight bathroom, and some guests say the room didn't live up to the public spaces, so book above the base category if space matters to you. Night noise in the room shows up in some reviews. Some guests also report charges after checkout they say were never explained, including disputed smoking fees, and describe a slow fight to get them reversed. The hotel is entirely non-smoking and posts a penalty for evidence of smoking, so read your folio before you leave. Valet is the only parking the hotel describes: $55 plus 13% parking tax comes to $62.15 a night, with in-and-out privileges. A historic preservation fee is charged too, folded into the one-night deposit, but the hotel doesn't publish the amount anywhere we could find. Ask for that number before you commit.
