Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Loa, the bar in the lobby of a 1906 bank building on Camp Street, is what guests remember about International House, along with the art hung around it. The building has run as an independent boutique hotel since 1998. Front-desk staff get named for sharp recommendations and for booking things on guests' behalf, and the French Quarter is a few blocks' walk, with restaurants closer than that. Upstairs is less reliable. Hot water is the complaint that keeps returning, with some guests going several showers without it; one 2026 guest tied the problem to construction at the hotel, which may mean an upgrade is under way, though the hotel's site says nothing about one. Guests also describe stained or worn carpet and broken furniture, and one reported a mold smell in a penthouse room. If a walkable base with a good-looking bar matters more to you than a dependable shower, the trade works. If hot water is non-negotiable, book elsewhere. The Amenity Fee is $15 plus tax a night for WiFi, morning coffee, bottled water, bike rentals and the gym, and guests object that it covers very little. Parking is harder to budget, because the hotel lists parking as offered but publishes no rate for valet or self-park anywhere on its site. Check-out is noon, and leaving before your booked date costs one night plus tax.

International House Hotel FAQ

Does International House Hotel charge a resort fee?

Yes, it calls it an Amenity Fee: $15 plus tax per night. It covers WiFi, morning coffee in the lobby, two bottles of spring water per stay, bike rentals, the 24-hour gym and concierge service.

How much is parking at International House Hotel?

The hotel doesn't publish a rate. Its site lists parking as offered but gives no price for valet or self-parking, so ask the front desk before you drive in.

How far is International House from the French Quarter?

A few blocks. The hotel is at 221 Camp Street in the CBD, and the Quarter starts on the other side of Canal Street.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is after 4pm and check-out is noon. The hotel will try to fit early arrivals if rooms are free and will hold your bags either way; late check-out may carry a fee.

What happens if I leave International House early?

You pay one night plus tax. The hotel charges that when you depart before your booked date, so cut a trip short only if the extra night is worth losing.

Is International House Hotel worth it?

For the location and the lobby, yes. Guests keep reporting hot-water failures and worn rooms, so if a reliable shower matters most, another CBD hotel is the safer booking.
