Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Freight trains run on active tracks beside the Hilton Riverside, and their horns at night are the complaint guests raise most, year after year. River-facing rooms and building 2 get the worst of it, which stings because the river is the reason to book here. The hotel sits at the foot of Poydras Street a few blocks from the French Quarter, with Caesars across the street, and guests speak well of the staff and the clean rooms. A multi-phase rooms renovation is underway, so the condition of your room still depends on the floor you land on, and new carpet does nothing about the trains. The stay works for someone who wants to walk the riverfront into the Quarter and will ask for an upper floor away from the tracks when booking. A light sleeper who can't choose a room is taking a real gamble. Self-parking in the covered garage is $50 a night with in-and-out access, and valet is $58. On top of the rate and parking comes a mandatory destination charge of $30 a night plus tax, which shows up only once Hilton's booking screen lists rates. The bundle is premium internet, a daily $10 food-and-drink credit, a daily laundry credit and a 90-minute indoor tennis or pickleball court rental, and plenty of guests say they paid for credits they never used.

You're at the foot of Poydras Street on the Mississippi, where the CBD meets the Warehouse District, with Caesars casino directly across the street. The French Quarter starts a few blocks downriver and the National WWII Museum is within walking distance. The cruise terminal is a few blocks away, close enough that the hotel sells a cruise parking package.
