Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Bourbon Orleans finished renovating its guestrooms in 2024, and the hotel's amenities page sells the result on hardwood floors and walk-in showers in granite bathrooms. Guests still complain about the showers. Weak water pressure turns up again and again, and in some rooms the water takes several minutes to warm up or never gets past lukewarm. Reviews written well into 2026 say so. Street and bar noise runs to 1 or 2am on the sides that face it, and some guests heard hallway traffic or their neighbours through the wall. Several fixed it by changing rooms. The hotel sits behind Jackson Square between Bourbon and Royal, so the rooms that put you closest to the evening are the rooms that hear it. A courtyard-facing room is the quiet one, and you give up the balcony. That trade weighs most on the third-floor Bourbon Balcony suites the hotel markets hardest. People who plan to spend their nights out in the Quarter, and who like an old building with a courtyard pool and live music downstairs, get what they came for. Some rooms are small and look at a brick wall. A $25 destination fee plus tax is applied to each room every night, and valet is $50 a day plus tax, so figure $75 a night before tax on top of the room.

The hotel is at 717 Orleans Street, directly behind Jackson Square and between Bourbon and Royal. Bourbon Street's bars are a few steps out one side and Royal Street's galleries are out the other, which is why the question of what your room faces matters so much here. Preservation Hall is around the corner on St Peter Street, and the hotel gives the cab from MSY as a flat $36 for two people.

Bourbon Orleans Hotel FAQ

Does the Bourbon Orleans charge a resort fee?

Yes, a $25 destination fee per room per night, plus tax. The hotel says it covers Wi-Fi, in-room and lobby coffee, bottled water, a one-time $20 credit at Bourbon O Bar and discounts on Pelican New Orleans tours.

How much is parking at the Bourbon Orleans?

$50 a day plus tax for valet, and the hotel's amenities page states that valet is the only parking it offers. Oversized vehicles are $55 a day plus tax, and up to six hours costs $25 plus tax before the overnight rate starts.

Is the Bourbon Orleans noisy?

It depends which side you are on. Rooms facing the street pick up bar noise until 1 or 2am, and some guests also heard the hallway or the room next door. Guests who moved to the courtyard side slept, and the front desk has changed rooms for people who asked.

Did the 2024 renovation fix the showers?

No. Guestrooms were renovated in 2024, and weak water pressure and water that is slow to heat are still reported by guests in 2026. Book somewhere else if a strong hot shower is non-negotiable for you.

Is early check-in available at the Bourbon Orleans?

Yes, for $50 when the hotel can do it. Standard check-in is 4pm, check-out is noon, and you have to be 21 to check in.

Are dogs allowed at the Bourbon Orleans?

Yes. The hotel is dog friendly, with a one-time fee of $100 and a maximum of two dogs per room. It publishes no weight limit and no separate pet cleaning charge.
