Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

If you are coming in by train, the Hampton Inn is about a block from Ogilvie Transportation Center, per Hilton's search listing. The hotel shares a building and a lobby with the Homewood Suites next door. Check-in, from 4 PM, is on an upper floor with a separate elevator to the guest floors, and a few arrivals find that confusing. Check-out is noon. Fulton Market at Randolph and Morgan is a 12-minute walk. That ties the Homewood for the longest walk in the area. Clean rooms and comfortable beds are what guests mention most, and the free hot breakfast comes up often, though a few found the beds or pillows uncomfortable. Some rooms include a full kitchen and city views. Hilton adds a mandatory-charge line to the booking screen for any hotel that charges a fee, and two December nights here came up without one. Guests grumble about the garage more than anything else, describing it as hard to use and pricey. Self-parking is $65 a day and there is no valet. Leave a car there Friday and Saturday night and that is $130 on top of the room, before any tax on the parking.
