This is a real oceanfront tower run like a European package resort, and that shapes the whole stay. RIU built its name on tour-operator holidays, so you get a big palm-lined pool deck, a separate kiddie pool, and a breakfast buffet with live cooking stations that reviewers single out as genuinely generous. You also get an international package-tour crowd and service that feels more resort desk than boutique. Almost nobody expects that part going in. The other surprise is geography: the name says Miami Beach, but you're in Mid-Beach, about 2 miles north of Ocean Drive, and reviewers put a rideshare to South Beach at $15-20 each way. Then the fees. RIU publishes neither a resort fee nor a parking rate on its own site, so both surface only in the booking flow. Guests report roughly $33 per room per night for the resort fee and about $30 a day for valet, which is the only parking option here. Call it $60 or so a night before you've eaten anything. Front desk service draws steady complaints for being curt, elevators back up at peak times, and upkeep slips turn up across stays: broken ice machines, dead hairdryers, thin sheets. Book it for sand, a big pool and a filling breakfast with kids in tow. Look elsewhere if you want attentive service or a walkable bar strip outside the door.
