Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The Croydon photographs like a fully modernized boutique, but the renovation is cosmetic and the building's age shows. Guests repeatedly report just one working elevator at a time, and slow ones at that. A 2015 New York Times review flagged the same lifts, so it's a long-running trait rather than a bad week. Room quality swings by category too. Some are roomy and spotless. Others are tight, face the elevator bank, and have softer beds and a dated bathroom. That gap between the photos and the bones is what splits guest opinion. What tips people toward the negative side is usually parking, which is entirely off-site. You're on City of Miami Beach ParkMobile meters or in a public garage (the 234 39th St lot is about 300 feet away, the 4000 Collins Ave garage about 0.1 mile), and the hotel publishes no rate for any of them because it doesn't run them. The Hotel Service Fee is knowable: $30 plus 14% tax per room per night, so $34.20 a night, about $103 across three nights. It covers in-room Wi-Fi, the pool and towels, the fitness center, and local calls. Good pick if you're flying in, getting around on foot or by rideshare, and after boutique character on a quieter block. If you're driving down, or traveling with kids who need space, this one fights you.

Hotel Croydon FAQ

Does Hotel Croydon have parking?

No. The hotel doesn't operate a lot or a valet service. You'll use metered street parking through the City of Miami Beach ParkMobile app, or one of the nearby public garages: the 234 39th St lot roughly 300 feet away, the 4000 Collins Ave garage about 0.1 mile off, or the city garage at 4400 Collins Ave. None are run by the hotel, so it doesn't publish rates for them. This is the single most common complaint in guest reviews, so plan for it before you drive down.

What is the resort fee at Hotel Croydon?

$30 plus 14% tax per room per night, which the hotel calls a Hotel Service Fee. That's $34.20 a night, or about $103 on a three-night stay, on top of whatever rate you book. It covers in-room Wi-Fi, pool access and pool towels, the fitness center, and unlimited local calls.

How far is Hotel Croydon from the beach?

A short walk. It sits at 3720 Collins Avenue in Mid-Beach, and guests consistently describe the sand and the boardwalk as steps away. The trade for that walkability is a quieter stretch than South Beach, which is a long walk or a quick rideshare to the south.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 4:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM. Early arrival may be possible for a fee if a room is ready, and late check-out may also cost extra, with the amount depending on how late you stay.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, dogs under 40 lbs are welcome, with a $250 non-refundable cleaning fee that's waived for certified service dogs. The hotel's FAQ caps it at two pets per room. Its terms page and its FAQ word the fee differently, so confirm at booking whether the $250 applies once per stay or per dog. Dogs can't be left unattended in the room or in public areas, and only dogs are mentioned in the policy.

Is Hotel Croydon worth it?

It is if you're arriving without a car. You get boutique Art Deco character, a rooftop deck and pool, an included breakfast and happy hour that guests single out, and a walkable Mid-Beach base at a budget-boutique price point. It's a bad fit if you're driving, if you need a large room or multiple beds for a family, or if a slow single elevator and a room facing the elevator bank would ruin the trip.
