Freehand Miami is a hostel wearing a boutique hotel's clothes, and nearly every recurring review theme traces back to that. People either love this place or bounce off it hard, with little middle ground. The praise lands in the same spot every time, the garden courtyard, the pool, and the drinking. Broken Shaker has won Tales of the Cocktail's best American hotel bar, and reviewers keep thanking front desk staff by name. The complaints are the flip side of that same courtyard: parties and DJs running late, loud in-room air conditioning, and in the shared bunk rooms, whoever you get as a roommate. Sleep quality and service draw the steadiest complaints. Then the fees. The resort fee is $35 plus 14% tax, so $39.90 a night, and what it buys is largely social-hostel perks: bikes, curated events, a Tesla shuttle within two miles. There is no lot. Valet at the nearby AC Hotel by Marriott is $55 plus tax, and metered street parking and city lots run $3 an hour from 9 AM to 3 AM, free 4 AM to 8 AM, with no daily cap the operator publishes. Bring a car and you are near $95 a night in add-ons before the room. Leave it at home and the arithmetic gets a lot friendlier.

Does Freehand Miami charge a resort fee, and what does it cover?

Yes, $35 plus 14% tax, which is $39.90 a night. The operator says it covers high-speed WiFi, complimentary guest transport by Tesla EV within a 2-mile radius, pool essentials, complimentary bike rentals, and access to curated events and activities. Worth knowing: the operator's wording does not spell out whether it is billed per room per night or per stay, so confirm the total at booking. Several reviewers were surprised by this charge at the desk after booking through a third party.

Is there parking at Freehand Miami?

No, there is no private lot. You have two options. A limited special valet rate of $55 plus tax is offered to Freehand guests at the nearby AC Hotel by Marriott, subject to availability and with no reservations taken. Or you self-park: metered street parking and nearby city lots run $3 an hour, charged 9 AM to 3 AM and free 4 AM to 8 AM. The operator publishes no daily maximum on the $3 rate, so 18 charged hours would be $54, roughly what the valet costs. Parking is one of the most common frustrations in guest reviews, especially for late arrivals.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 3:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM. The front desk is staffed 24 hours, so late arrivals are fine. Early check-in from 12:00 PM and late check-out until 3:00 PM are both available for a fee, subject to availability.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, if you are in a private room. Dogs up to 75 lbs are welcome, one per room, for a one-time $75 plus tax per stay. Dogs are not allowed in the shared bunk rooms, so a dorm bed rules the dog out.

Is Freehand Miami noisy?

Often, yes. The courtyard hosts DJs, watch parties, weekly barbecues and two bars, and guests who loved the place still describe the atmosphere in terms that make clear this is not a quiet hotel. Sleep quality is a recurring weak point in guest feedback. Reviewers also mention loud in-room air conditioning. If you need silence, request a quiet room when you book, which the operator has accommodated for guests who asked ahead.

Is it a hotel or a hostel?

Both, in the same building. Freehand sells private rooms and suites alongside shared bunk rooms, including an 8-bed room, and everyone uses the same pool, courtyard and bars. Private-room guests get a hotel experience with hostel energy around it. Shared-room guests report the usual dorm variables, snoring, roommate behaviour, and no control over who else books the beds.
