The Catalina stacks four bars and restaurants and two pools into an older Collins Avenue building, and that density is both the appeal and the complaint; guest opinion splits sharply on it. Praise is consistent on three points: you are a block from the sand and about ten minutes' walk from Lincoln Road, the nightly happy hour is already covered by the fee you paid, and guests name individual front desk staff warmly. The complaints repeat just as reliably. Bathroom cleanliness is the most frequent knock by a wide margin, then noise, and reviewers keep naming the same culprit: rooms above Taco Taco, where music carries late through thin walls. Warped floors and rusted fixtures come up constantly. Now the math the nightly rate hides. The resort fee is $30 plus 14% tax, so $34.20 a night, roughly $103 over three nights, and it does cover Wi-Fi, beach towels, pool access and that happy hour. Parking hurts more, because there is no self-parking at all. Valet runs $40 a day plus taxes through a third party, so three nights with a car adds at least $223 before the room. Expect a $100 per night card hold on top. Worth booking if you will be out most of the day and you ask for a high floor away from Taco Taco. Light sleepers should look further up Collins.

South Beach, at 1732 Collins Avenue near 17th Street, on the quieter northern end of the strip. You are a block from the sand, about a ten minute walk from Lincoln Road's shops and restaurants, and within easy walking distance of the Miami Beach Convention Center, which makes this a practical base during a show. The Bass Museum of Art is roughly seven minutes on foot. Ocean Drive's crowds sit several blocks south, so the late noise here tends to come from the hotel's own bars and the Taco Taco patio rather than from the street. Miami International Airport is about 9.7 miles away, a twenty minute drive without traffic.

Does the Catalina charge a resort fee, and what does it cover?

Yes, $30 a night plus 14% tax, which works out to $34.20 a night and roughly $103 across three nights. It is mandatory. Unlike a lot of Miami Beach resort fees, this one covers things you will actually use: Wi-Fi, beach towels, pool access and the daily happy hour. If you use the pool and take a drink most evenings, it broadly pays for itself.

Is there parking at the Catalina, and what does it cost?

Valet only, $40 a day plus taxes, and there is no self-parking on the property at all. The valet is run by a third party, and there is no separate day-use or event rate, so a few hours costs the same as overnight. A public City of Miami Beach garage sits nearby at 640 17th Street, but the hotel does not publish its rates and simply links to the city parking page. Three nights of valet adds at least $120 before tax.

What is the pet policy, and what does a dog cost?

Dogs only, 40 lbs or under, two maximum, and the hotel's own pages disagree on the price. The FAQ lists a flat $250 pet fee charged to your card at check-in. The Terms and Conditions instead list a non-refundable deep cleaning fee of $100 for one dog or $150 for two. Confirm the figure in writing before you drive down. Also worth knowing: the Terms state that emotional support, comfort and therapy animals are not exempt from the fee. Only ADA service animals are. Dogs cannot go in the pool areas or anywhere food is served.

What time are check-in and check-out, and can I get a late checkout?

Check-in is 4:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM. Early check-in runs $20 an hour when a room is ready. Pin the late checkout down at the desk, because the two operator pages describe it differently: the FAQ says $20 an hour until 3:00 PM with a full night charged after that, while the Terms and Conditions say a half-day rate applies from noon to 2:00 PM with a full night after 2:00 PM. Neither page says what the half-day rate actually is.

How far is the beach?

About a block. The hotel sits at 1732 Collins Avenue, and beach towels are already included in the resort fee, so you can walk over without renting anything. Lincoln Road is roughly a ten minute walk and the Miami Beach Convention Center is close enough to walk to a show. If you would rather stay on site, there is a rooftop pool and bar plus a courtyard pool.

Is the Catalina worth booking?

Yes, if you will be out of the room most of the day and you treat the room assignment as something to negotiate. The location, the staff and the included happy hour draw steady praise, and the fee genuinely buys something. Ask for a high floor away from Taco Taco, and look the bathroom over before you unpack, because cleanliness there is the single most repeated complaint across thousands of reviews. If you sleep lightly or you need a reliably spotless room, book further up Collins instead.
