The 3.8 is a location-versus-product split you can read right in the reviews, which rate the address far above the room. Worn carpets, dated bathrooms, and "partial Gulf view" rooms that need binoculars to find the Gulf are the recurring complaints; the ten-acre beach, the two heated pools, the tiki bar, and the Hibiscus Spa are the recurring redemptions. It's also a 400-room convention hotel, with the check-in lines and elevator waits that implies. The fee print stings extra here: a $35-plus-tax resort charge, valet-only parking around $40, and beach chairs that still cost extra on the hotel's own beach.
