The Palm Pavilion Inn is old Clearwater Beach in its final chapter, and that's meant literally: after sixty-plus years the founding family sold the property in early 2026, and a nine-story, 144-room resort has been proposed to replace the 30-room inn. The paperwork is filed and the clock is running. Until then, here's what you get: an art-deco building steps from the quiet north-end sand, free monitored parking (nearly extinct on this island), a heated pool, and the beloved beachside grill next door, now renamed Crabby's Beachside Pavilion with the same staff, menu, and live music. Helene gutted the grill in 2024; it was rebuilt and serving again by spring break 2025. Set your expectations like it's 1988, because parts of it are: the building has no elevator, the rooms are small and read dated even after the new owners' light refresh, the walls are thin, a fire station sits across the street, and the grill's live music drifts over on weekend evenings. One more change to know about: the famous fee-free policy ended in March 2026, and there's now a $25-a-day amenity fee, though it does bundle your beach chairs. It suits couples and low-key families who want character and the quiet end of the beach, and anyone who'd like one more night in a piece of old Florida before the wrecking ball gets it.

Is the Palm Pavilion Inn really being torn down?
A nine-story, 144-room resort was proposed in May 2026 to replace the 30-room inn, with the beachfront restaurant preserved. Developers have several years to break ground, so the inn operates normally for now. Its era is visibly ending, though.
Did the 2024 hurricanes damage the Palm Pavilion?
Helene's surge gutted the beachside restaurant, which was rebuilt and reopened by spring break 2025 as Crabby's Beachside Pavilion, with the same staff and menu under new ownership. The inn itself runs normally.
Does the inn still have no resort fee?
Not anymore. A $25-a-day amenity fee arrived with the new owners in March 2026. It bundles daily beach chair and umbrella rental, waters, and gear, so it returns more than most resort fees, but the famous fee-free era is over.
