Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The Potomac Hotel, Autograph Collection debuted on August 5, 2026, in the building that was Salamander Washington DC, and the Mandarin Oriental before 2022. Most of what has been written about the building predates the Marriott name, so how it runs under the new one is hard to judge yet. Marriott's booking screen for November 17 read "Includes 39 USD Destination Fee", so the price shown already carries the $39, and the 15.95% District tax goes on the room. Valet is the only parking listed, at $90 a day, the highest valet rate of the ten hotels in this area. You can bring up to two pets, 60 pounds each, for a non-refundable $150. Inside are 373 rooms, a dual-level spa, a heated indoor pool and Dogon, the restaurant led by Chef Kwame Onwuachi. Groups get 38,000 square feet of meeting space indoors and out, and there's a lobby lounge with a terrace. It's at 1330 Maryland Ave SW, nine minutes on foot from The Anthem.
