Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
The draw at the InterContinental is the roof: an infinity pool that runs the length of the deck, by the hotel's own site, with the WAVES bar up there too. It sits at 801 Wharf St SW, two minutes from The Anthem, and you have to be 21 to check in. IHG's booking screen for November 17 itemized a $35 Nightly Guest Amenities Fee with $5.58 of tax on the fee itself, then the 15.95% District tax on the room rate. That's $40.58 added to every night before the room is counted, and it buys bottled water, morning coffee, internet and 10% off at Willowsong and the spa. There's no self-parking at the hotel. IHG lists valet at $75 a day, and the hotel's site puts the Colonial Parking garage at $75 overnight with unlimited in and out. Drive in, and a night adds $115.58 to the room and its tax, before any tax on the parking.
