Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The Garden District Hotel is a 50-room hotel built around a heated saltwater pool with a swim-up bar, and that pool is what guests talk about most. The bar and pool staff are friendly, by most accounts. The pool also sells day passes to people who aren't staying here, so on busy days the courtyard fills with an outside drinking crowd, sometimes from the morning on. Loungers go fast, and there isn't much room left to swim. Nobody brings drinks to you: you queue at the bar or the food window, and guests report orders coming out wrong. After 11 a.m. the pool is adults only (18+), which rules it out for kids most of the day. Some 2026 guests say the hotel is still working through opening problems, and the bar sometimes closes to guests for private events. Beds get compliments, and the block is quiet, with the St. Charles streetcar one block over. There's no resort fee, and street parking outside the hotel is free for guests. The hotel has no valet and no lot of its own, so parking adds nothing to your rate.
