Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
The Royal Sonesta's front door is at 300 Bourbon Street, and which way your room faces decides most of the stay. Rooms over Bourbon stay loud late into the night whatever the season, which makes this a good booking for people who came for that street and plan to be out in it, and a poor one for a light sleeper. The quiet rooms are the ones that look onto the side streets or down into the courtyard. Construction was still going on in August and September 2026, with scaffolding and daytime drilling, and one September guest said parts of the hotel were not in normal service. The hotel has not said when that work started or when it ends. Most stays go fine, but when a room goes wrong guests name bathrooms that flooded, showers running cold, stained linens, and in one account mold on a wall. The courtyard pool is heated year-round and stays calm next to the street, though one recent guest found it crowded at a busy hour. Cars do not stay at the front door: the garage sits around the corner at 700 Conti Street, and the valet runs that gap around the clock. No nightly valet rate is printed on any of Sonesta's own pages. A destination fee of $25 a night plus tax applies, and it carries a $15 daily food and drink credit.

Open in Maps →The hotel sits on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter, at the Canal Street end rather than the quieter downriver end. Its garage entrance is around the corner at 700 Conti Street, also reachable from 700 Bienville Street. Canal Street and its streetcar lines are a couple of blocks away, and the rest of the Quarter runs downriver from the front door.

Does the Royal Sonesta New Orleans charge a resort fee?
It charges a destination fee, $25.00 a day plus tax. Sonesta's page says that covers a $15 daily food and drink credit, Wi-Fi, the 24-hour fitness center and pool access.
How much is parking at the Royal Sonesta New Orleans?
The hotel doesn't say. Sonesta describes 24-hour valet with in-and-out privileges at the Conti Street garage, and its accessibility page mentions a self-parking facility, but no nightly rate appears on any of its own pages. Oversized vehicles may be charged more, also unpriced, so settle it with the front desk before you arrive.
Is the Royal Sonesta New Orleans under construction?
Yes, it still was in September 2026. Guests in August and September described scaffolding and daytime drilling, and one said parts of the hotel were not in normal service. Sonesta publishes no start date or scope for the work, so there is no end date to plan around.
Which rooms are the quietest?
The side-street and courtyard ones. Rooms facing Bourbon Street pick up the street until late whatever the season. The courtyard rooms face inward, away from all of it, and the balcony rooms sit over the side streets instead of the busiest block.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is 4:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM.
Can you bring a dog?
Yes. The hotel keeps designated pet-friendly rooms and charges a non-refundable pet fee, but it doesn't publish the amount on its own site or on Sonesta's chain pet page. Call the hotel before you arrive.
