Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Until 2024 this was the W New Orleans French Quarter. Sage Hospitality moved it to Marriott's Renaissance flag and renamed it Hotel de la Poste, and some booking sites still show the W name. People book it for 316 Chartres Street, two blocks off Bourbon: close enough to walk most of the Quarter, far enough that guests keep describing quiet nights. Bartenders get more thanks than anyone else on staff, some of it from people who never stayed and only came in off the street for a drink. The rooms look recently redone, and plenty of guests got more space than they expected in an old Quarter building. Others drew a small, dark room (one faced an alley through a tiny window) with almost no bathroom counter. Housekeeping is the most repeated complaint of 2026. Rooms were skipped, or the bed stayed unmade until the guest went down and asked. If your days are spent walking the Quarter and your nights end at the bar downstairs, that matters less than it would to someone who expects daily service without chasing it. Several guests only learned about the destination fee after booking, and some had to ask for refunds on breakfast or wifi their rate already covered. Marriott's page puts that fee at $30 a day, covering daily city tours and a food-and-drink credit the same page lists as both $15 and $30. Valet runs $55 a day ($65 for an oversized vehicle), and the hotel offers no self-parking.

The hotel is in the 300 block of Chartres Street in the upper French Quarter, a few blocks in from Canal Street. Royal Street is one block over and Bourbon is the block after that, while Jackson Square is a few blocks the other way down Chartres. The pool and courtyard sit inside the building, back from the street.

Hotel de la Poste - French Quarter, A Renaissance Hotel FAQ

Does Hotel de la Poste charge a destination fee?

Yes, $30 a day, per Marriott's page for the hotel. It covers daily city tours and a food-and-drink credit that the same page gives as both $15 and $30, so ask at check-in which one you get. The hotel's own website doesn't mention the fee at all, which is why several guests found out after booking.

How much is parking at Hotel de la Poste?

$55 a day, valet only. Oversized vehicles pay $65 a day, and the hotel has no self-parking.

Is Hotel de la Poste the old W New Orleans French Quarter?

Yes. It's the same building at 316 Chartres Street. Sage Hospitality converted the W to Marriott's Renaissance brand in 2024, and some booking sites still list it under the W name.

Is Hotel de la Poste noisy at night?

Not usually. It sits two blocks off Bourbon Street, and guests consistently say the rooms stay quiet at night even though the bars are a short walk away.

Is housekeeping daily at Hotel de la Poste?

Don't count on it without asking. The hotel doesn't publish a housekeeping schedule, and in 2026 guests repeatedly report rooms that were skipped or beds that weren't made up until they asked at the desk.

Does Hotel de la Poste allow pets?

Yes. Up to two pets per room, 40 lb max, with a $150 non-refundable fee.
