Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Built in 2023, this Hampton sits on Elysian Fields Avenue a block or two from the Frenchmen Street clubs, and guests say the bar noise doesn't reach the rooms. The rooms are big and clean, with a fridge and microwave. Nobody gets through the front doors or into an elevator without a key card, and guests who felt uneasy on the surrounding blocks after dark say the locked building is what let them relax. Most add that nobody actually bothered them. The free hot breakfast gets steady praise for make-your-own waffles and a hot dish that changes day to day, though a few find the eggs powdery. The guest laundry is free, which counts on a longer stay. The desk is uneven: several guests were checked in hours early, one after only asking where to leave the car, while others describe clerks who were curt at check-in or on the phone. Self-parking in the gated lot is $40 a day with no valet, and the lot fills, so paying doesn't promise you a space. A one-night booking on Hilton's site broke down into the room charge and taxes, with no resort fee. Ask for the Elysian Fields side if you want the downtown skyline, since some rooms face an electrical substation. Freight trains on the nearby tracks sound their horns around 4 to 6 a.m., and light sleepers have woken to them.
