Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Hotel Peter and Paul is a 19th-century Catholic parish in the Marigny, a church, schoolhouse, rectory and convent converted into 71 rooms. Guests bring up the buildings before anything else, and the courtyard between the church and The Elysian Bar gets steady praise, as does the front desk. No two rooms are alike. Some loft rooms get one small skylight and a ceiling low enough that you stoop, and some first-floor rooms open straight onto the sidewalk. The Convent building has no elevator. Several guests mention dim lighting and little bathroom counter space; others note there's no coffee maker or fridge. The guests happiest here picked it for the buildings and the quiet residential street, and they put the walk to the French Quarter at about 15 minutes, with Frenchmen Street closer. When you book, ask for an elevator building and a room above the sidewalk. A $20 daily amenity fee buys pool access plus a few extras, including a distillery tour and tasting at Seven Three Distilling, and the hotel doesn't say whether tax is added. There's no valet. The on-site lot is $15 plus tax a night, and the hotel asks you not to park on the street.
