Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Lamothe House is the 1839 townhouse of sugar baron Jean Lamothe, on the Marigny side of Esplanade Avenue, and only part of the hotel is in it. The five Antique suites are in the main house. The 30 deluxe rooms are spread through it and three carriage houses behind. Guests who land in the main house talk about antique furniture and beds so high you need a step stool. The rooms across Kerlerec Street, down an alley at the back, get called plain and a long walk from the desk, though a 2025 guest found that block renovated. If the antiques are why you're booking, ask for the main house. Everyone mentions the courtyard pool, tucked behind the house among heavy planting and a fountain. A few guests found it murky or closed for cleaning. Some rooms take minutes to get hot water. Housekeeping doesn't come daily unless you ask, so request towels and coffee pods at the desk. There's no elevator, guests say, and some rooms are up two or three flights. Street-side rooms hear traffic, and rooms by the back gate hear it slam. If you came for the music, Frenchmen Street is about a block away and the walk home ends on a quiet residential street. A live booking showed tax and no resort fee. Parking is a gated self-park lot behind the hotel, first come first served, and the hotel's own pages quote two different daily prices for it, so confirm the amount when you book.

Where you are
621 Esplanade Ave, New Orleans, LA 70116
Open in Maps →Esplanade Avenue is the line between the French Quarter and the Faubourg Marigny, and 621 sits on the Marigny side, so the Quarter starts across the street. This stretch of Esplanade is oak-lined and residential, and a good deal quieter than the Quarter. Frenchmen Street's music clubs are about a block away.

Does Lamothe House charge a resort fee?
No. A live one-night booking on the hotel's own booking engine listed the room and its taxes, with no resort, destination or amenity fee line.
Does Lamothe House have parking?
Yes, a gated self-park lot behind the hotel, first come first served, for a daily fee. The hotel's own pages quote two different prices for it, so confirm the amount when you book. If the lot is full, the front desk will point you to public parking on Iberville, Rampart or Decatur.
Which rooms have the antiques?
The five Antique suites in the 1839 main house. Deluxe rooms are spread through the main house and three carriage houses, and guests in the rooms across Kerlerec Street at the back describe them as plain. Ask for the main house when you book if that's what you want.
Is there an elevator?
Not according to guests, and some rooms are two or three flights up. The hotel doesn't address it on its site, so if stairs are a problem, ask for a ground-floor room before you arrive.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-out is 11 a.m. Check-in isn't settled: the hotel's policy pages and its booking page give different times, so confirm it before planning an early arrival. If your room isn't ready, the desk will hold your bags.
How far is it to Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter?
Frenchmen Street is about a block away. The French Quarter starts across Esplanade Avenue, so you can walk into it from the front door.
