Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The Frenchmen sits on the music block of Frenchmen Street in a building from 1860, and its own FAQ admits it is not quiet: the Tiki Tock bar is right outside a couple of guest rooms. Guests confirm it. Weekend street noise and live music carry in, and rooms beside the courtyard pool hear other guests staying up loud. Staff hand out white-noise machines and earplugs, which helps, but if sleep matters ask for an upstairs room away from the pool. Expect small rooms and small bathrooms wherever you land. What people come back praising is the short walk home from the clubs, along with the staff, who get thanked by name for arranging tours and small upgrades. The plunge pool is the amenity guests actually use. Don't book for the bar yet: guests reported it closed for renovation in early 2026, and one in July was still waiting on it. There's no elevator, and you must be 21 to check in. Neither operator page lists a resort fee. The Queen Loft Suites and the Frenchmen Suite charge $50 per extra person per night, so a group of four in a loft suite adds $100 a night to the rate. The hotel has no parking of its own and tells you to leave the car at home.

The Frenchmen Hotel FAQ

Does The Frenchmen Hotel have parking?

No. The hotel offers no guest parking and recommends leaving your car at home, since street parking around Frenchmen Street is hard to find.

Does The Frenchmen Hotel charge a resort fee?

No resort fee is listed on the hotel's site or its operator's page. The Queen Loft Suites and the Frenchmen Suite do charge $50 per person per night for guests beyond the base occupancy.

Is The Frenchmen Hotel noisy?

Yes. The hotel says so itself: its bar sits right outside a couple of guest rooms. Guests also mention weekend street music and noise from the pool courtyard, so ask for an upstairs room away from the pool.

Can I book just one night at the last minute?

Sometimes, but maybe not online. Two- or three-night minimums apply on some dates, which can make the booking calendar show no availability. The hotel says to call (504) 688-2900 for one-night stays.

What time is check-in, and is there an age limit?

Check-in is 4pm and check-out is 11am. You must be 21 or older to check in, and the hotel describes itself as adult-oriented.

Is the hotel bar open?

Check before you go. Guests reported the bar and lounge closed for renovation in early 2026, and a July 2026 guest said it still had not reopened.
