Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Hotel Pompadour is the painter James Michalopoulos's own studio complex on Elysian Fields, opened in 2025 as 12 suites with his canvases on the walls. No two rooms match. The Petite Treehouse is 200 square feet with a full bed and a writer's nook, while Lux Galactica runs to 1,100 and sleeps six. Guests say it feels closer to staying in an art space than in a hotel room, then talk about the courtyard sculpture garden, where they take their morning coffee. The beds get praised over and over, often unprompted, and rooms are kept very clean. Frenchmen Street is a block away, yet guests say they sleep fine. Staff sort out problems quickly once you reach them, but they are rarely on site. Nearly everything runs by text, and one guest who wanted someone to ask about parking found nobody. Another called it closer to a rental than a hotel. There are no TVs, which most guests like, and upstairs suites are stairs only. If you would rather text than walk up to a desk and you can manage a staircase, this is one of the more original places to sleep in the Marigny. It is new, so the review history is short and almost none of it is critical. The hotel publishes no resort fee and says nothing about parking, even though the courtyard used to be a parking lot. There is a 2-night minimum, and checkout can run to 1pm for $150.

Where you are
527 Elysian Fields Ave, New Orleans, LA 70117
Open in Maps →527 Elysian Fields Avenue is in the Faubourg Marigny, on the downriver side of Esplanade Avenue, so you are outside the French Quarter and walk into it. The hotel puts Frenchmen Street one block away and the Mississippi River one block the other way. Elysian Fields is a wide avenue, but guests say the rooms stay quiet enough to sleep.

Does Hotel Pompadour charge a resort fee?
Not one it publishes. No resort or amenity fee appears on its website or its booking engine, and none showed up as a line item on the room rates. The one extra charge it lists is $150 for checkout at 1pm instead of 11am.
Is there parking at Hotel Pompadour?
The hotel doesn't say. Its site and booking engine mention no parking of any kind, and guest reports disagree, so text the hotel before you drive in.
Can I book just one night?
No. The hotel requires a 2-night minimum, which matters if you are booking the night before.
Is there a front desk?
Not one you can count on. Guests say staff are rarely on site and most contact runs by text. The hotel lists a text line at (504) 414-6200 and a phone line at (504) 355-2595.
Does Hotel Pompadour have an elevator?
No. The booking engine says several second-floor suites are reached by stairs only. If stairs are a problem, ask for Reposia, the suite the hotel lists as ADA accessible.
Can I walk to Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter?
Yes. The hotel puts Frenchmen Street one block away, and the Quarter begins at Esplanade Avenue, a short walk upriver through the Marigny.
