Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Guest opinion on this Grand Hyatt splits by building, and which one you land in matters more than anything else here. The main tower is where the good stays happen, and guests say a bay-view room is the one to book. They talk about the sunset pier and the nature boardwalk, where people stop to watch birds. Oystercatchers, the seafood restaurant on site, gets steady mentions for its buffets, Sunday brunch especially. The casita buildings sit apart from the tower across the mangroves and collect most of the condition complaints: dust, stains, rusty or patched fixtures, appliances that don't work. Separately, a musty or mildew smell from AC vents and bedding has come up for years, and one guest who switched rooms found the new one no better. Ask for a bay-view room in the main tower when you book, and turn down a casita if one is offered. The trips that fit are a bayside night near the airport before a flight out of Tampa International, or a conference where you'll use the meeting space and eat in. Guests also report a daily destination fee plus paid parking on top of the rate, and some only learned about the charges after booking. Hyatt's own page blocked every attempt we made to read the amounts, so find both lines on the booking screen before you pay.

Open in Maps →The hotel sits at 2900 Bayport Dr on Rocky Point, where the Courtney Campbell Causeway leaves Tampa for Clearwater, with the bay on one side and mangroves around the grounds. Rocky Point Golf Course is nearby, but there is little else you'd walk to. Tampa International Airport and International Plaza are a short drive away.

Does Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay charge a resort fee?
Guests say yes: a daily destination fee on top of the room rate, and some didn't find out until after booking. We couldn't confirm the amount because Hyatt's page for this hotel blocked us, so check the fee line on the booking screen before you pay.
Is parking free at Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay?
No. Guests report paying for parking, and older articles that call it free are out of date. We couldn't read the current rate on Hyatt's own page, so confirm it when you book.
Should I book a tower room or a casita?
The tower, if you can choose. Guests praise the bay-view tower rooms, while most condition complaints (dust, stains, worn fixtures, broken appliances) are about the casita buildings across the mangroves. Ask for a tower room when you book.
What time is check-in?
We couldn't confirm it. Hyatt's page for this hotel blocked every attempt to read it, so check your booking confirmation or call the front desk.
How close is it to Tampa International Airport?
It's a short drive. The hotel is on Rocky Point at the Tampa end of the Courtney Campbell Causeway, in the same Westshore area as the airport.
Is Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay worth it?
It is if you land a bay-view tower room and budget for the destination fee and parking. It's a poor pick if musty smells bother you: guests have reported mildew odors from AC vents and bedding for several years running.
