Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
Parking is free at the Hollander and there is no resort fee, both stated on the hotel's own site, so beyond tax nothing lands on the bill per night unless you bring a pet. Most of what guests talk about happens downstairs. The Tap Room gets repeat mentions for dinner off its craft beer list and for breakfast, and the pool bar with its cabanas is the center of the place. That pool is also where opinion splits. On weekends a DJ runs pool parties open to locals, and some guests love them while others found the pool packed and loud, no good for a quiet swim or for young kids. Book a Saturday if you want a party at the pool, and pick a weeknight if you want it calm or are bringing small children. Rooms are small and the bathrooms smaller, which comes up even in otherwise glowing reviews, and shower pressure runs weak in some rooms, the second floor included. Staff get credit for handling requests quickly, and one detail guests bring up is anniversary champagne left in the room. The building dates to the 1930s and feels nothing like a chain, and from 4th Avenue North guests walk to Central Avenue and the waterfront. The free lot does fill up, and guests describe hunting for a tight space or parking across the street.

Open in Maps →The Hollander is on 4th Avenue North in downtown St. Petersburg, a few blocks north of Central Avenue's restaurants and bars. Guests walk to Central and down to the waterfront from here, and several say the area felt safe on foot. The Dali Museum is about a mile away, and the Gulf beaches are a drive, not a walk.

Does the Hollander Hotel charge a resort fee?
No. The hotel's own site states there is no resort fee, so what you pay per night is the room rate plus tax, and a pet fee if you bring one.
Is parking free at the Hollander Hotel?
Yes, self-parking on site is free. The lot fills up, though, and guests describe tight spaces and sometimes parking across the street. The hotel doesn't publish a valet option or an oversized-vehicle rule.
Is the pool quiet on weekends?
Usually not. The hotel runs a seasonal Sunday pool party, and guests describe weekend DJ parties that leave the pool packed and loud. For a calm swim, book a weeknight.
Can non-guests use the pool on weekends?
Yes, during the weekend parties. Guests say the DJ pool parties are open to locals, so on those days the crowd at the pool isn't only people staying at the hotel.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, up to 35 pounds and two pets per room. The fee is $30 a night for one pet and $50 a night for two. Pets must stay leashed and can't be left alone in the room. Inside the hotel they're allowed only in the lobby and on the front porch, and not every room takes them.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is 3:00 pm and check-out is noon.
