The Bon-Aire opened on January 17, 1953, on lots the Curotto family bought the summer before, and the third and fourth generations run it now. Eighty-one units sit in four buildings, Center, North, South and Gulf, added or acquired between 1953 and 1974 and arranged around mature landscaping, two heated pools, a shuffleboard court and barbecue grills, with 368 feet of beachfront lounging terrace and complimentary lounge chairs. Sandbar Bill's, the beachfront bar and grill the family opened in February 1990, draws locals as well as guests, and the neon sign out on Gulf Blvd was named a historic landmark in December 2017. Guests score it 4.6 across roughly 985 reviews, and those reviews split cleanly. People who like the 1950s bones call it old Florida, and the rest report tubs that want refinishing and kitchens nobody has modernized. Room quality varies from building to building, so which one you draw matters. The bigger catch for a late booking is the rulebook. Fridays and Saturdays carry a two-night minimum, holidays run four to seven nights, a one or two night deposit is taken up front, cancellations must be in writing 14 days ahead, and only one permitted vehicle per room is allowed on site, with boats, trailers and RVs turned away. Pets are not permitted. It suits families who rebook the same week every year and will accept dated finishes in exchange for direct beach frontage.

Right on the sand mid-island, just south of the Dolphin Village plaza, which has sat mostly shut since a 2025 fire. Crabby Bill's and the Sirata resort's beach bar are a longer walk north.

Does Bon-Aire allow pets?
