Coconut Inn is built around its courtyard: a long, narrow heated pool with a spa cove at one end, an outdoor kitchen with a gas grill, cooktop and sink, a gazebo with a waterfall fountain, cornhole and bocce, and gear to borrow at no charge, including a single kayak and a tandem, beach chairs, umbrellas, a beach cart and fishing rods. Beach cruisers are complimentary too, and all eleven rooms have a full kitchen, which is what makes a multi-night stay here work. Read the room list before you book, though. Eight of the eleven are studios sleeping two or three, and seven are upper level, reached by outside stairs. Rooms are compact and bathrooms are tight. Older reviews mention a loud wall air conditioner, and the inn has said its systems are now the quietest heat pumps available. Parking is free in a lot behind the building, which counts for a lot on Pass-a-Grille's tight residential streets, and the front desk is staffed around the clock. The beach is directly across the street, less than 200 feet away. Dogs are welcome and cats are not; a house cat named Baxter patrols the grounds. Families need one of the four ground-level units: the two-bedroom Havana Flat sleeps six, and the Queens and Kings suites sleep five and four. Best for two people who want a kitchen, a bike and a very short walk to sand.

The inn is not on the sand. The Gulf beach is directly across the street, less than 200 feet away, and several upper-level studios have balconies or sundecks with a beach or pool view.

Does Coconut Inn charge for parking?

No, parking is free in the inn's own lot behind the building. That is a real advantage in Pass-a-Grille, where public spaces near the beach are limited.

Do the rooms have kitchens?

Yes, every one of the eleven. Each studio and suite has a fully equipped kitchen, and the courtyard adds a shared outdoor kitchen with a gas grill, cooktop and sink.

Does Coconut Inn have a pool?
