Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The pool is why people book the National. The long Art Deco pool deck is the single most-praised thing about the property in reviews, and the staff (front desk, pool, and beach attendants specifically) get named again and again as the reason a stay felt looked-after. Couples pick it as the calmer alternative to South Beach's party hotels, and mostly it delivers. The catch is what the rate leaves out. The hotel confirms a daily resort fee covering Wi-Fi, beach loungers, pool access, towel service, and the gym, but publishes no amount anywhere on its site. A promo offering $15 off the resort fee is the only clue to its size, and guests report paying somewhere around $19 to $28.50. Add overnight valet at $47 a night, in/out included, and you land roughly $66 to $75 over the headline rate before tax. Self-parking here means street parking, so there's no cheaper on-site option. Reviewers say that stack is what made the rate feel misleading, and it's a fair complaint. Then there's the room math nobody tells first-timers. Tower rooms get the ocean view and sit away from the pool, but the rooms and especially the bathrooms run small. Cabana Wing rooms are bigger and got the newer renovation, and they sit right on the pool deck, where daytime pool parties and events (Miami Music Week gets named) carry through thin walls. Pick the one you can live with.

National Hotel Miami Beach FAQ

How much is the resort fee at the National Hotel?

The hotel doesn't publish the number. It confirms a daily resort fee covering Wi-Fi, beach loungers, pool access, towel service, and the fitness center, but no dollar amount appears anywhere on its site. Guests report paying somewhere around $19 to $28.50 a night. Confirm the current figure with the front desk when you book, because it's the one cost you can't look up in advance.

Does the National Hotel have parking, and what does it cost?

Valet only, $47 a night for overnight guests, with in/out privileges included. Shorter stops run $25 for up to four hours and $35 for four to eight. The hotel lists self-parking as street parking, so there's no cheaper on-site option, and oversize vehicles pay a surcharge starting at $95.

How far is the National Hotel from the beach?

It's oceanfront. Beach loungers and towel service are bundled into the resort fee, and the beach attendants get singled out in reviews alongside the front desk and pool staff.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 4:00 PM, check-out is 11:00 AM. Late check-out is free until noon. From noon to 3:00 PM you're charged a half day, and after 3:00 PM a full day, so the free window is narrow.

Which room should I book at the National Hotel?

Depends on whether you want the view or the quiet. Tower rooms have the ocean view and sit away from the pool, but reviewers repeatedly call the rooms and bathrooms cramped. Cabana Wing rooms are larger and got the newer renovation, but they sit on the pool deck and catch pool-party and event noise through thin walls. Nothing here gets you space, quiet, and a view at once.

Is the National Hotel worth it?

Yes, if the pool deck is the reason you're going. It's the most-praised feature of the property and the service gets consistent marks. Budget the fee stack first: valet at $47 plus an unpublished resort fee puts you roughly $66 to $75 over the rate before tax. If a quiet room and square footage matter more to you than the pool, this isn't your pick.
