Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The Godfrey's best feature keeps short hours. I|O, the pool and bar on the 7th floor, looks out over the LA skyline, and its own page lists it as closed Sunday through Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday it opens at 5 pm. Only Friday and Saturday get daylight, 11 am to 12:30 am, and a private event or bad weather can shut it even then. The hotel doesn't say whether guests can use the pool while the bar is closed. Book Thursday to Saturday and the roof is why you came. Book Sunday to Tuesday and you're really staying for ALK, the all-day restaurant and bar on the ground floor, and a gym that never closes. Dogs 35 pounds and under can come for a $125 cleaning fee you won't get back. Every night also carries a $35 resort fee. The hotel's pages call it an amenity fee and never give the amount, but the booking screen shows it already folded into the rate. Some of it comes back as a $10 nightly food and drink credit at ALK and I|O. On a Monday, only ALK can take it. Parking is valet only. Overnight is $63 with unlimited in-and-out, and the 9.5% city tax takes that to just under $69. The $35 fee is already in the displayed rate, so the car is what comes on top: about $207 over three nights.
