Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Dream Hollywood has a nightclub on the roof. The Highlight Room takes the whole top floor: by day it's a pool with cabanas, and at sundown the DJs start. Book here if that's the night you want, since bed is an elevator ride away. If you want to be asleep by midnight, it's the wrong hotel. Guests warn each other about the noise, from the roof and from the clubs and restaurants on the street below, and the usual advice is to keep off the floor directly under the rooftop. The location is a block off the Walk of Fame, which is convenient and also gritty. Hyatt's booking screen shows a $42 destination fee per room per night. Parking is third-party valet at $65 a night, so a car brings the extras to $107 a night. The hotel is cashless and puts a $150 a night incidental hold on your card. Dogs are allowed for a $125 fee and cats are not. Drivers of anything tall should check before arriving: the valet's height limit is 6 ft 6 in, and it turns away Sprinter vans, large vans, buses and trucks.
