Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The lazy river at the Marquis is shaped like Texas. It runs on Altitude, the sixth-floor pool deck, beside an infinity pool and a whirlpool, open 7 AM to 10 PM on your room key. Daily access for two is part of what the $25 nightly Destination Fee pays for, along with enhanced in-room Wi-Fi, and Marriott's page says those offerings can change. The fee also comes back as a $25 food and beverage credit at the hotel's restaurants, though Xochi doesn't take it. The booking screen showed every rate with the fee already in it. Eat on property and the credit cancels the fee out; if you don't, the $25 buys only the pool and lazy-river access and the Wi-Fi. Self-parking is $50 a day or $15 an hour, and valet is $70. With a car, a night runs $75 with the fee and self-parking or $95 with valet, and Marriott doesn't say whether tax is added to the fee or the parking. Noise is the recurring complaint: freeway-facing rooms are loud and elevator noise carries, so ask for a room away from the freeway side. Only service animals are allowed. Check-in isn't until 4 PM, and you must be 21.
