Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Hôtel Swexan loads a lot into its $45 nightly destination fee: a house car within three miles, entry to the Samurai Collection museum, a lobby social hour from 5 to 6 p.m., two items pressed a day, a welcome amenity with bottled water, and a shoeshine on request. On the booking screen for November 11, 2026, the $45 came with a $12.00 Tourism Fee and a $4.50 State Cost Recovery Fee, and city tax and hotel occupancy tax sat on separate lines. That was $61.50 in fees that night before tax. Parking is valet only. The hotel publishes no overnight rate for guests (the $10 a car it lists is for diners), and there is no EV charging on site, so a driver adds an unknown valet bill to that $61.50. Breakfast is extra too, by guests' accounts. Bass from the lounge and sirens from the street are the noise complaints, so ask for a high floor. The hotel has a rooftop infinity-edge pool, and the arena is a 10-minute walk.
