Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

The Galaxy is a newer independent building at 101 3rd Ave N, and what it does well is the room and the address. The regular room types run 260 to 390 sq ft, and guests call them roomy for what they paid. Many mention the bay out the window. Beach Drive is a couple of blocks east, so the restaurants and waterfront bars are a walk rather than a ride. The hotel has advertised an on-site restaurant and an open-air rooftop bar, but guests in 2025 and again in spring 2026 found neither. What they found was a coffee bar that closes after the morning, plus vending machines. Upkeep is uneven from room to room: an air conditioner that wouldn't cool in one, housekeeping that never came in another. If you're arriving without a car and want a big room to sleep in near the museums and the bars, that trade works in your favor. Drivers should plan harder. The hotel's own site publishes no guest parking and no parking rate, and guests say they were sent to a garage or city lot a block or more away, sometimes with the charge added to the room bill and sometimes at about double what they expected. No resort fee appears anywhere on the operator's site either, so confirm the total when you book.

You're on 3rd Ave N in the downtown grid, a couple of blocks west of Beach Drive and the bayfront parks, with Central Avenue a few blocks south. Restaurants and bars are walkable, and so are the downtown museums; the St. Pete Pier sits at the end of the waterfront east of you. The Gulf beaches are a drive away, not a walk.

Galaxy Hotel FAQ

Does the Galaxy Hotel have parking?

Not at the building, going by what guests report. The hotel's site lists no guest parking or rate, and guests describe being sent to a garage or city lot a block or more away, sometimes with the charge added to the room bill. Ask the hotel for the current arrangement before you drive in.

Is there a resort fee at the Galaxy Hotel?

None is published. The operator's site mentions no resort, destination or amenity fee on any page, but that is an absence rather than a written policy, so check the final booking screen.

Is the rooftop bar at the Galaxy Hotel open?

Guests say no. Reviews from 2025 and spring 2026 report no rooftop bar or restaurant in operation, only a coffee bar that closes after the morning, plus vending machines. The hotel's own homepage now mentions just the coffee shop.

What time is check-in at the Galaxy Hotel?

The hotel doesn't publish one. No check-in or check-out time appears on its site or booking engine, so call (727) 500-2409 if you're arriving early or late.

Is the Galaxy Hotel pet friendly?

Partly. The site tags one room type, the Single Room with Gallery, as "Some pets allowed" and publishes no pet fee or size limit. Book that room type and confirm with the hotel.

How far is the Galaxy Hotel from the beach?

The Gulf beaches are a drive, not a walk. What's walkable is the downtown bayfront: Beach Drive is a couple of blocks east, with the waterfront parks and the Pier beyond it.
