Inn on the Beach opened in 1987 and changed hands in late 2014, when new owners reworked the rooms and the exterior, with a further room renovation in 2016. What runs now is an adults-only inn of fourteen rooms plus a standalone cottage, most of them named for plants and trees (Hibiscus, Sea Grape, Orange Blossom, Magnolia) with a few strays like Daybreak, Gulfstream and White Ibis. Every room has at least a kitchenette and several have full kitchens. The gear comes with the room too: beach cruisers, chairs, umbrellas, towels and coolers, as does parking, which matters on a street where the public meters run $3.25 an hour. Continental breakfast, pastries and fruit, goes out in the courtyard on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The catches are structural. This is an old building and it does not block out noise from the outside world. The inn states plainly that its rooms and common areas are not ADA accessible. There is no pool, and pets are not accepted. The sand sits across Gulf Way, roughly a thirty-second walk, so the name is doing some work. Children are not accommodated and the inn does not stock cribs or extra beds, so this is a couples property by design, best for a couple who wants to cook and keep the day simple.
