Our take
By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer
The Hyatt Regency Orange County sits on Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove, more than a mile from the Disneyland Resort, so plan on the shuttle. It leaves every half hour and costs $7 per person per day, with kids 3 and under free. A family of four with two school-age kids pays $28 a day to ride it. Add the $20 destination fee Hyatt charges every night and that's $48 a day before parking, which Hyatt's parking page offers as self or valet without printing a rate. Ask for it when you book. The lobby is a 17-story glass atrium, and its noise carries into rooms that face inward, so a light sleeper should ask for a room on the outside of the building. Of the 653 rooms, 242 are suites, some of them Kid's Suites with a separate bedroom for the children. There are two pools, plus tennis and pickleball courts. Dogs up to 50 pounds can stay, two if they come to under 75 together, for $100 a stay of up to six nights, but you have to book by phone at 1-800-233-1234 to bring one.
