Kissimmee runs along US-192 on Disney's southern edge, close enough that some resorts are 10 to 15 minutes from a park gate, but priced as their own market rather than Disney's. That gap is the appeal: a themed resort with a water park can cost noticeably less here than a comparable pool complex inside Disney, and you trade only a short drive and the on-property perks. The corridor is spread out and car-dependent, though, so factor in parking and the drive when you compare.
Rates soften most in the late-summer and post-holiday shoulder weeks, when the family-travel crowds thin out. The catch to watch is variety in quality: the US-192 strip mixes standout resorts with dated motels, so the specific property matters more here than the area does.
Very close on the north end: resorts near the US-192 and World Drive junction are about 10 to 15 minutes from a Disney park gate. The corridor stretches east, though, so a Kissimmee address can also mean a 25-minute drive. Check the specific hotel.
Usually, yes. The same amenities, themed pools, water parks, big resort grounds, tend to cost less in Kissimmee than inside the Disney bubble. You give up on-property perks and a short drive, and you'll want a car for the spread-out corridor.
