Our take

By Matt Spaulding, Founder and writer

Eventi's front of house is the reason to book it. Guests keep singling out the doormen and bellmen, and the desk sorts out room changes and merged bookings. Rooms are big for Manhattan, and higher floors look out at the Empire State Building. The hotel sleeps quieter than a Sixth Avenue address suggests, though some guests on lower or street-facing floors hear the bar and the avenue at night, so ask for a high floor. Things slip behind the scenes. One guest's air conditioner stayed broken two days running, while another got a same-day room move for the same problem, so it depends who's on shift. Another guest was billed after checkout for an upgrade they'd been told was waived. Read the final bill before you leave. IHG elite status buys very little here, so don't book it for the perks. The location pays off on a concert night or before an early train, with Madison Square Garden and Penn Station each about five minutes away on foot. Every night carries a $49 guest amenities fee with tax included. IHG's booking screen shows it next to the room rate and splits it at payment into $42.70 plus $6.30 tax. It covers upgraded Wi-Fi, phone calls, the gym with its Peloton bikes, and discounted city attractions through the concierge. Pets of any size stay free. Valet is $65 a day plus tax, or $75 plus tax for an SUV, with no in and out. Manhattan taxes parking at 18.375%.

Eventi is at 851 Sixth Avenue, between West 29th and West 30th Streets. The hotel calls the neighborhood Chelsea, with NoMad and Flatiron next door. Its own walking directions to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden run west on 30th Street and right onto Seventh Avenue, about five minutes either way. Guests also walk to the Empire State Building, and they mention a subway stop a few minutes away and plenty of places to eat nearby. Some say the entrance is hard to spot.
